Utilizing EV Charging Management for EV Bus Operation aims to contribute to the social implementation of EV Buses

-Demonstration experiment of EV charging management: an issue when introducing EVs
Operates EV chargers to control EV charging according to EV bus operation schedules, system restrictions, and EV charging status-

Aakel Technologies, Inc. (HQ: Fukuoka, Japan, Representative Director: Ryoji Miyawaki, hereinafter referred to as "Aakel") is a climate tech company from Fukuoka that develops business with the aim of solving climate change problems and balancing business with the corporate objective of "realizing a decarbonized society through digital innovation."

From October 1, 2022, Aakel will provide the system developed by Chubu Electric Power Co., Ltd. (HQ: Nagoya, Japan, President & CEO: Kingo Hayashi, hereinafter referred to as "Chubu Electric Power") to the EV bus demonstration project (hereinafter referred to as the "Demonstration"). In this demonstration, we will utilize Aakel's EV charging management for EV bus operation and aim to contribute to the social implementation of EV buses.

Background

In October 2020, the Japanese government declared that it would achieve "carbon neutrality" by 2050, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2050 and formulated the "Green Growth Strategy." As one of these initiatives, we are promoting the spread of electrified vehicles. On the other hand, when introducing an EV, it is necessary to install charging facilities, check the contracted power, and consider the charging time.
Currently, when companies own multiple EVs and charge them, the amount of power that can be charged at one time is determined for each building due to system restrictions. It is not easy to promote the introduction of EVs because of issues centered on EV charging management. To solve these issues, Aakel has developed a system that enables optimal control of EV charging at multiple locations and in consideration of EV operation schedules.
Through this demonstration, we will work to promote the introduction of EV buses by building a system that can automatically adjust the charging time and output according to the state of charge (SoC) of the vehicle and contracted power, based on the operation schedule of EV buses, which are a public transportation.

Aakel Technologies Inc. Representative&CEO:Ryoji Miyawaki - comment

As the shift to EVs progresses around the world, we must accelerate the introduction of EVs without delaying Japan. On the other hand, there are many barriers unique to Japan to the spread of EV chargers, which are a prerequisite, and progress has not been made easily. In addition, EV charging is meaningless unless the electricity is derived from renewable energy.
To solve these problems, we have developed a mechanism that utilizes IoT and machine learning.
We look forward to working with Chubu Electric Power to start demonstrating these mechanisms on public transportation and contribute to the spread of EVs in public transportation in Japan.
